STO 410.01 Solar Thermal System Conceptual Design Online

Course Description

This online course explores system design considerations, including collector sizing and configuration, pipe sizing, component sizing, solar fluid volume estimatiion, heat storage, heat delivery, code considerations, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Participants will apply design elements while working through five case study systems, including space heating, commercial, and process heat applications.

ST 301 Solar Hot Water Installation Lab or ST 701 Solar Thermal Technology Instructor Institute or equivalent

Continuing Education Units:

  • 7.0 continuing education credits for NABCEP Solar Heating Installer Certification
  • 13.0 learning units for American Institute of Architects (AIA) - HSW/SD
  • 4.5 credit hours for Iowa HVAC License

Required Materials:

  • A computer
  • A phone
  • Basic computer skills
  • Computer browser such as Firefox or Safari (not Internet Explorer) with pop-ups enabled for the course
  • Adobe reader
  • Calculator

About the Online Format:

This course will meet via live webinar for two hours a week, on Tuesdays, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. CT. Course work will be need to be completed online within the time allotted.
