PV 401.03 Advanced Photovoltaic Installation

Course Description

This two-day installation course offers participants an advanced level of lecture and hands on learning as they install a permanent utility interactive PV system. The 7.5 kW ground mounted PV system will consist of 36 Canadian Solar modules installed with Enphase micro-inverters, utilizing Patriot Solar mounting systems. Participants will learn about sizing, component selection, system layout, NEC calculations and requirements, and real world installation techniques.

This course is offered in conjunction with the PV Technology Instructor Institute, which is also a prerequisite for the course. For more information or to register for that course, please go to the course page.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify system components and characteristics
  • Describe system types and relevant UL IEEE and NEC issues
  • Explain the use of each component
  • Demonstrate installation techniques for systems
  • Identify code issues
  • Install the PV array
  • Install the Balance of System (BOS)
  • Explain commissioning protocol
  • Explain system completion checkout
  • Demonstrate system inspection
  • Identify common mistakes
