Continuing Education

Maintaining Your Credentials

MREA offers continuing education opportunities year-round to help you meet your recertification deadlines. For those with licenses and professional credentials, it’s especially important.

MREA is a Registered Provider of Continuing Education for those working towards a NABCEP Board Certification or renewing a credential. Many courses are also recognized for continuing education by agencies for electricians, inspectors, and building officials. Learn more about our continuing education offerings below.

Continuing Education Course Directory

NABCEP PV Associate Renewal Information

To maintain your NABCEP PV Associate Credential, Associates must obtain 12 hours of continuing education (CE) completed during your 3-year credential period.  Details can be found in section 10 of the NABCEP Associate Handbook.

You may submit your Renewal Application during the third (3rd) year of your current credential period. You are required to log in to your myNABCEP account to complete and submit a renewal application electronically for review.

MREA offers a variety of courses approved for PV Associate Renewal continuing education.

PV Associate Renewal Course Offerings

You will need 12 hours of continuing education every three years to maintain your PV Associate Credential. Here is a list of MREA courses that count for credit. You can mix and match based on your area of interest. Many of these courses are also approved for advanced training credits for NABCEP Board Certifications.

Submitting Your Renewal Credits

  • Associates may submit their Renewal Application during the third (3rd) year of their current credential period. Associates are required to log in to their account to complete and submit a renewal application electronically for review. Please follow these steps to renew:
  1. Log in to your myNABCEP account.
  2. Under Credentialing in your account, click on the corresponding credential workflow.
  3. Complete the Renewal Code of Ethics and Fee phase. (The Code of Ethics and renewal fee is required before Certificants may enter renewal requirements.)
  4. Complete the Renewal Requirements phase and steps.
  5. Upload required documentation and submit for review. You can access your MREA course history and download your letters of completion from your student dashboard within 30 days of course completion. Please contact courses@midwestrenew.org if you require your course transcripts.

NABCEP Advanced PV Training, Recertification, and Courses for Renewal

To maintain certification, NABCEP Board Certified Professionals must obtain continuing education (CEs) in specific renewable energy and business-related areas within three years of initial certification. Details can be found in section 21 of the NABCEP Certification Handbook.

The MREA is a registered provider of NABCEP continuing education. We offer a variety of courses held both online and in-person to help you achieve and maintain your professional certifications.

PV Installation Professional (PVIP)

All applicants are required t0 complete 30 hours of continuing education broken down into three sections:

  • 6 hours specific to Electric (NEC) Codes
  • 12 hours specific to the PVIP JTA
  • 10 hours specific to Renewable Energy
  • 2 hours must be Building and/or Fire Codes

PV Technical Sales Professional (PVTS)

All applicants are required t0 complete 30 hours of continuing education broken down into two sections:

  • 18 hours specific to the PVTS JTA
  • 10 hours specific to Renewable Energy
  • 2 hours must be Building and/or Fire Codes

Energy Storage Installation Professional (ESIP)

All applicants are required t0 complete 30 hours of continuing education broken down into three sections:

  • 6 hours specific to Electric (NEC) Codes
  • 12 hours specific to the ESIP JTA
  • 10 hours specific to Renewable Energy
  • 2 hours must be Building and/or Fire Codes

PV Design Specialist (PVDS)

All applicants are required t0 complete 30 hours of continuing education broken down into three sections:

  • 6 hours specific to Electric (NEC) Codes
  • 12 hours specific to the PVDS JTA
  • 10 hours specific to Renewable Energy
  • 2 hours must be Building and/or Fire Codes

PV Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist (PVCMS)

All applicants are required t0 complete 30 hours of continuing education broken down into three sections:

  • 6 hours specific to Electric (NEC) Codes
  • 12 hours specific to the PVCMS JTA
  • 10 hours specific to Renewable Energy
  • 2 hours must be Building and/or Fire Codes

PV Installer Specialist (PVIS)

All applicants are required t0 complete 30 hours of continuing education broken down into three sections:

  • 6 hours specific to Electric (NEC) Codes
  • 12 hours specific to the PVIS JTA
  • 10 hours specific to Renewable Energy
  • 2 hours must be Building and/or Fire Codes
