ASES Webinar: PV Recycling
October 22, 2020, 1p.m. – 2p.m.
Established in 1954, the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that advocates for sustainable living and 100% renewable energy by sharing information, events and resources to cultivate community and power progress.
Over the last two decades, the expansion of solar photovoltaics (PV) in the US has created immense benefits in the form of green jobs, economic development, and climate action. However, this great success story does not address the fundamental fact that PV, like any other electronic product, does not last forever and is in fact experiencing early end-of-life (EOL) decommissioning well before end of warranty due to manufacturing defects, installation mistakes, tax-motivations, technology upgrades, forest fires, and weather-related events like hail, tornadoes, and hurricanes fueled by climate change.
Establishing smart, PV circular economy policies will protect our environment, provide economic opportunities, and safeguard US economic and national security interests. How can we work together to bring awareness to the issue and to make solar energy truly green and sustainable and to keep solar panels out of our nation’s landfills?
